Freediving Australia: Melbourne
Not just another freediving course.
This isn’t a “tick the boxes and leave” kind of course. When you train with us, you join one of Australia’s largest and most active freediving communities, with access to social dives, trips, pool sessions, and ocean training.
We’ve trained thousands of freedivers through Freediving Family, and our community is diving every week.
Through our WhatsApp and Facebook groups, you’ll easily connect with dive buddies and explore Australia underwater.
We dive at some of Melbourne’s best locations, with conditions chosen specifically for learning. But that being said, the ocean is…the ocean! Sometimes it doesn’t play ball. Our primary dive site Queenscliff or Portsea.
How our courses work: 3 components

Theory
The initial theory component where we’ll introduce freediving concepts is run at the Adreno Melbourne store itself! Located at 1184 Nepean Hwy, Cheltenham.

Pool
Each course has a pool training component which takes place at Melbourne Sports Centres - MSAC located at 30 Aughtie Dr, Albert Park.

Ocean session
For the ocean component, we dive from a boat for our dive sessions, departing from Queenscliff or Portsea for 2 boat dives inside the bay.

Wave 1 Beginner Course
2 Days $625 AUD
Learn the amazing skills that will unlock the ocean for you. You’ll be shocked at what you can achieve. You’ll be amazed at how easy it all feels. Absolutely anyone can join! This is where freediving begins!

Spearfishing Course - 1 Day
1 Day $320 AUD
Learn everything you need to be a confident spearo! How to handle your equipment, what fish are good to eat and how to identify them, hunting/stalking techniques and everything you need to stay safe while spearfishing.

Spearfishing Course - 2 Day
2 Days $595 AUD
On the 2 day spearfishing course we cover everything that we cover on our one day course except we also include comprehensive freediving instruction as well. Our aim is to improve your freediving as much as possible so you feel comfortable underwater.

Hao
Hao’s freediving journey started when he jumped out of his corporate life and dived into breath-work, which quickly led him to freediving. Freediving not only taught him how to build up awareness also accepting and letting go. He prioritises safety and focuses on technics and developing personalised plans to progress. With a Chinese background, Hao can teach in Mandarine.

Voon
Voon started her freediving journey with Freediving Family during covid and has now come full circle as an instructor! She’s also our ice queen - holding the Australian record for under-ice diving without a wetsuit!

Gear hire is included free of charge in all our courses.

All of our courses are taught under Molchanovs Freediving Education -the highest standard of freediving education in the world.
Once you finish your course and complete the requirements, you will receive a relevant Molchanovs certification.

DO NOT scuba dive 24 hours before freediving.
DO NOT dive if you are congested.
DO NOT have a heavy breakfast before your dives.
DO NOT have any coffee or energetic drinks before your dives.

You need to be at least 16 years old (with a parental/guardian's signed consent).
You need to bring your Medical & Liability Release forms signed and completed before starting the course.
For each level, there are specific prerequisites that you can check above.

In order to book a spot on your freediving course, a $150 AUD deposit is needed. This deposit is completely refundable until 4 weeks before your course starting date. After this 4-week period this deposit is nonrefundable, and we require the remaining course fee.
If you’re not able to attend the course that you’ve booked you can reschedule without any fee as long as you give us at least 7 days’ notice.
If you cancel your course within 7 days of the course commencement date, then we can rebook you for a future course for a $175 AUD rebooking fee. We cannot issue any refunds within 7 days of the course.
To reschedule, send an email to info@freedivingfamily.com please include your name and the date of the course you were booked for. You’ll be able to choose any available course date from the ones on our website. Dates are subject to availability.

Sometimes we might need to postpone your freediving course, for reasons such as:
Poor weather conditions that are not safe or suitable for an entry level freediver.
Instructor illness
Low course numbers - for every course we have a minimum required attendance to be able to run the course. If the course has low numbers, we’ll try and reschedule you to another weekend with a course running.
If a course gets rescheduled or postponed by the Freediving Family, we will offer a number of available dates for you to join us in the future.
If you are not able to make any future dates then you will be entitled to a full refund of your course fee provided that you have not already commenced your course (attended the first day of the course in which we usually do a theory and pool session.)

The minimum amount of students we can take per course is 3 persons. So if you and your family or friends would like to have a private course (and there are at least 3 of you), then we can definitely arrange a date exclusively for you!
